4-Wheeler Raffling Fundraiser raised over $19,000!!!

Jamille Rogers story from Sage Motorsports in Terreton, ID

We are part of a family business called Sage Motorsports located in Terreton Idaho. After the earthquake we knew that we wanted to do something. Malaika, our adopted daughter from Haiti, was especially determined to help. All our children emptied their piggy banks & we were excited about how much they had saved & were willing to donate, but felt that we could do more.About a week after the quake we came up with an idea that we would donate two new Arctic Cat 4-wheelers to be raffled. Luckily, the other owners Ron & Ross Baxter (my father & uncle) were excited to donate.

We could not believe the support we had in eastern Idaho! We had other family members wanting to sell tickets in their hometowns. We originally thought $10,000 would be a reasonable goal from our small farming communities, so we have been absolutely blown away with $19,120.00 being our final amount raised!

The winners were drawn at a couple of local events in Terreton & Rigby Idaho. The winners were RJ Ball & Gaylord Maughn, both from Monteview Idaho.

When we took our first trip to Haiti in 2004, we took about 15 members from our community with us to help start work on the new orphanage. RJ Ball & his wife Diana went with us. This was the first time we saw our 3 Haitian children who would come home during the summer of 2005.

Chris & I have six children Mattea 11, Makiah 9, Malaika 8 (Haitian), Kazden 5 (Haitian), Keean 5 (Haitian), Kacer 4.

On behalf of the Foyer de Sion orphanage in Haiti, a special “Mesi Anpil” Thank You Very Much to Sage Motorsports, Jamille and Chris, their children, Ron & Ross Baxter and the community and friends of Eastern Idaho!

Bringing 70 Children Home - The challenges

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

We want to let you know the teams on the ground in Haiti and in the states have been working tirelessly to bring our children home. There have been literally 100’s of people have been putting together this flight to bring the children home.  It’s also important to note many people are going down that are needed on the ground in Haiti (that aren’t part of our child reunification effort).  These people will be going down in an effort to help the on-going efforts in Haiti as whole.  Several organizations and churches have committed to get the children on another flight if they don’t make it onto this one.

It is important to note that while the children have been granted Humanitarian Parole the children haven’t been granted travel docs from the Haitian government yet.  Our agency is going to the US Embassy again. ( They go everyday for MANY hours. ) But we have a plane scheduled to come in on Friday from Haiti with all our Foyer children being adopted in America and other orphanages’ children being adopted in America.

It truly is a MONUMENTAL effort and appreciate everyone’s prayers that the children will be granted travel documents. Remember we are still working with a country this still recovering from a huge tragedy. We need to be patient, supportive, contributive and prayerful.

We appreciate everything you do to help!

JCICS - Update - International Movement Approval required for each child

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

UPDATE: Haiti

It is Joint Council’s understanding that the government of Haiti, in protecting against the inappropriate movement of children to the U.S. and other countries, has announced that the Haiti government must approve the international movement of each individual child.  This includes children that are bound for the U.S., whether through the visa process or humanitarian parole.

It is also our understanding that the U.S. government is actively engaged on this issue with the Haitian government.  The US Citizenship and Immigration Services, which authorizes humanitarian parole for each child, continues to process cases at the US Embassy in Port au Prince.

The new requirement of the Haitian government may cause a delay in the travel of children who qualify for a U.S. visa or humanitarian parole.  It is understandable that adoptive families who have yet to be united with the child they are adopting, may be concerned.  Joint Council urges adoptive families to remain diligent and continue to seek humanitarian parole for the child they are adopting.

It is Joint Council’s understanding that this new requirement is in response to concerns that children who were not in the process of adoption, leaving Haiti for the U.S. and other countries.   Joint Council shares in the concerns over the inappropriate movement of Haitian children.

Joint Council again calls on the U.S. government, UNICEF and others engaged in child protection to provide transport of Haitian orphans to safe shelter including nutrition and medical care,  regardless of their adoption status.  Any delays necessitated by this new child protection requirement only further support Joint Council’s standing advocacy for the safety and well-being of Haitian orphans and other children.

Directions for getting to reunion

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Dear Families and Friends of Foyer,

Below is a link to a google map to the reunion location for this year.

For those who are less Google map oriented here are some directions:

Take Interstate 84 to the Highway 93,Twin Falls/Sun Valley exit.

Travel south on Highway 93 and cross the Snake River Canyon into Twin Falls.

Turn Right (west) onto Pole Line Road (second stop light, There is a McDonalds restaurant on that corner).

Travel west on Pole Line Rd for about 15 miles until it veers left over the railroad tracks.

Turn right into Hwy 30.

Continue west several miles on Hwy 30 into the city of Buhl.

On your right you will see Valley Country Store. We are next door to this store. There is a sign that says Fairview Veterinary Center. It’s a big white house with a maroon roof. We are building a new clinic in the front yard…hard to miss..used to be a lovely front yard. If you reach the stop light in Buhl you missed us. Look over your right shoulder and you’ll see it. :)

To get to the city park where the reunion can be found on Saturday, don’t stop at the Joneses’ unless you have food donations for the container. Drive straight through the first light. Turn right at the second stop light onto Main Street. Turn left onto 7th Avenue, which takes you straight to the city park.

If you plan on coming Friday afternoon, we’re having dinner and toasting s’mores. You can make overnight reservations at the Oregon Trail Motel. The rooms are large and clean, not fancy. The manager Dorothy Hylton will allow your whole family to stay together in one room if you choose. The rooms have plenty of floor space.

Oregon Trail Motel

510 South Broadway

Buhl, Idaho 83316

We realize gas prices are making travel difficult for many, but we look forward to seeing those of you who can make the trip.

Best,

Patrick Jones, DVM

Chairman, Foyer de Sion, Inc.

Thank you note

Dear Families and Friends of Foyer,

Just a note to thank all who responded to the recent requests for financial help for the children of Foyer. Today I wired Guesno enough money to buy the van as well as several hundred dollars for nannies and $1500 for other immediate needs (also some adoption foreign fees and other odds and ends). We are so grateful for your generosity, support and prayers. We actually received a little more money than needed to purchase the van. The extra money has been put into a fund to pay for repairs and tires (Haiti is terribly hard on tires!).

This week We also sent Copies of the DVD Gate of Hope to all the families and agencies. Each family should receive a copy directly or through their agency. Feel free to make other copies to share with familiy or friends, but we do ask that the video not be uploaded to Youtube or other “public” internet venues. The Film can also be viewed at http://foyerdesion.org/

We’re doing a lot of work on the website, a new forum is being developed for announcements and whatnot and lots of other developments are in the wings. Swing by and have a look. We’re grateful to the volunteers that have and are putting so much time and energy into the site.

The Reunion will be held the last weekend of June. It will be held just a few miles from where we’ve had it the last several years. More details coming soon.

I have been having trouble with one of my email accounts. If anyone has emailed me in the last month or so and hasn’t received a response, please try again. I have a new email address patrick@foyerdesion.org. In addition to running my veterinary practice, I have an online business and work as an online consultant. As a result, I’m sitting at my computer many hours a day. So, if you ever send me an email and I don’t respond fairly quickly you can assume one of two things:

  • I have not received the message
  • Or, I am dead

If email isn’t working, just phone me. I’m happy to visit with you.

Have a great week.

Call any time 7 am to 10 pm MST.
If you call other times you’ll wake me up…not that that’s unusual, people wake me up all the time.
It just may take you a few minutes to convince me that you aren’t having puppies. :)

Nutrition product donated!

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

I just wanted to share some wonderful news! LDS Humanitarian Service is going to donate to Foyer a nutrition product called Admit. It helps with malnourishment and just overall nutrition for the children.  Yeah!!!!

New Board of Directors

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

October 27, 2007

Hello All,

By way of announcement, there have been several changes to the board of directors of Foyer de Sion Inc.

Chairman: Dr. Patrick Jones
Secretary: LoriAnn Jones
Treasurer: Jenni Allred
Trip Coordinator: Airica Tripple
Director of Adoptions: Trevor Crapo
Director of Sionfonds Program: Annie Blackstone

Other board positions to be filled in the near future will be a physician to act as Director of Health and Safety for foyer children and a Director of Fund Raising. Other positions are being considered as well and suggestions are certainly welcome. Applications for potential candidates are also welcome. Please email me patrick@foyerdesion.org

My philosophy as Chairman is that many hands make light work. To that end we will be forming several comities to help the work progress.

An enormous amount of good can be done but doing so will require many participants.

Our most pressing priority is to make the lives of the Foyer children as safe, secure and healthful as possible. To that end, we will be aggressively seeking donations for the completion of the new orphanage. We will also be seeking donations to establish a trust fund
that will generate sufficient interest to pay the day-to-day operational expenses of the orphanage. Until the children have their own building, and a perpetual fund for maintenance, they are in a perilous situation.

Individuals with experience in grant writing, corporate (or other venues) fund raising or simply with enthusiasm to be involved are encouraged to contact me off-list by email.

We are currently making a DVD which can be used by anyone to introduce the public to Foyer De Sion and encourage donations. The DVD will be available to anyone that would like a copy (or 100 copies for that matter). It should be finished at the end of the year.

I and the board look forward to working with the adoptive families and friends of Foyer. Working together we can do wonderful things to bless the lives of the children of Haiti.

We hope that those of a religious inclination will remember the Children of Foyer and the new board in their prayers.

May God bless us all in this important work,

Patrick P. Jones, DVM
Chairman, Board of Directors
Foyer de Sion, Inc.
