Stories of Hope
My name is Benita and I am 16 years old. I was born in Haiti and lived at the Foyer de Sion orphanage for eight years of my life. Last year I was adopted and was able to come home with my two little sisters and join my family here in the United States. It is a miracle that I am here and that I was able to come. I say that knowing that I left behind good friends at the orphanage where I lived who are still waiting for their own miracle to happen. I will forever be grateful to Foyer de Sion. Foyer took me in and gave me a home while I waited for a family. The people who are there took such good care of me and provided a safe place for my sisters and me. I am also grateful for the many people in the US who donated money while I lived there so that we had something to eat and live on. Still, I remember being hungry and not being able to do anything about it. I know that everyone I was living with felt the same, and there wasn’t anything we could do about it. I love Haiti and I always will, but life in Haiti is hard. It seems there is never enough of anything - food, clean water, school, clothing, and gas. The earthquake I lived through has made life even harder in Haiti. I want to help Foyer in every way that I can so that I have some peace knowing that my friends there have food to eat, clean water to drink and a dry roof over their heads during rainy season. The last year and a half with my family has been so wonderful, but I often think of all of my friends who were my family while I lived at Foyer. They deserve to be happy and not hungry and I hope that my story will help others to donate to Foyer to improve their lives. Foyer is a good home for children and it is run by good people. I love the Mardy’s very much and am so grateful to them.
